Mahaska County is dedicated to the health and welfare of the public as well as the environment with the adoption of standards that are necessary and desirable for the adequate and the reasonable control of the environmental conditions that are hazardous to health and safety.

Services provided by environmental helth are on site wastewater evaluations for new construction and reconstruction of wastwater disposal systems.

• Execute percolation tests and evaluate soil profiles to determine soil suitability for on-site waste disposal systems.
• Permitting and design specifications of on-site wastewater disposal systems.
• Conduct pre and post construction inspections of newly constructed waste disposal systems
• Water testing services available to assure quality drinking water.
• Provide technical support for plugging wells.
• Permit, test and regulate non-public water supplies with in the county.
• Investigate nuisance conplaints inplement measures.
