Treasurer: Motor Vehicles

MOTOR VEHICLE (Auto Dept) is open 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM: for vehicle renewals, title transfers, replacement titles, plate exchanges, and other services that require additional forms or applications to be completed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONAL NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS:

Per Iowa Department of Revenue: You MUST complete a BILL OF SALE with every motor vehicle, sale/purchase AND ATTACH a copy to the title at the time of transfer.  You MUST complete a Bill of Sale with every trailer, sale/purchase as well.  EFFECTIVE DATE: January 1, 2022, statewide in Iowa.

You may pay your vehicle renewals ONLINE at www.iowatreasurers.org, by MAIL to Mahaska County Treasurer at 106 S. 1st Street Oskaloosa IA 52577, or IN PERSON at the Motor Vehicle Department, from 9AM - 4PM. Payments are payable to: Mahaska County Treasurer.  Please include your registration renewal notice to ensure proper posting. Renewals are date sensitive, penalty will apply for delinquent renewals.  If your renewal is delinquent and you are renewing online, the penalty will be calculated for you and you may proceed.  If your renewal is delinquent, and you will be paying by mail please contact our office at 641-673-4618 to find out the current amount due BEFORE remitting your payment.

If you are required to show your SR22, please include a photo copy with your renewal.  If you are renewing a vehicle at 28 ton or more please include a copy of your 2290 with the stamp RECEIVED on it from the IRS.  If you do not have access to a copy machine you may bring it to our office and we will make a copy of your 2290.

The County Treasurer's Motor Vehicle Department is responsible to:

  • license, title and collect one time registration fee on all motor vehicles, manufactured homes, and trailers
  • renew license plates
  • issue replacement, salvage, in-lieu and in-transit titles
  • record and release security interests on motor vehicles, manufactured homes, and travel trailers
  • issue junking certificates for vehicles that are dismantled or no longer operable
  • prepare reports for the State of Iowa, Department of Transportation
  • process refund claim forms
  • issue special plates
